Fall Sale Staff Picks

South Lyndale Liquors fall sale. October 2nd - October 19th.
www.southlyndale.com

Fall is here and so is our sale! In honor of this momentous occasion we felt it’d be fitting to show off our staff highlights!

Dan (Owner) – Gulfi Rossojbleo.

Nero d’Avola from the Hyblaean Mountains in southeast Sicily. The winery philosophy is to honor the tradition of those farmers from which the land was inherited. Dry-farmed and organic. Fresh, juicy and a little wild. It’s the side of Nero d’Avola that often gets masked by wood. Not here! Pure and beautiful.  Pairs well with a lot of Autumn flavors.

Daniel (Wine Buyer) – Closilo Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker and mother of three Nina-Mari Bruwer makes this wine in honor of her husband’s grandfather. Kierie is Afrikaans for walking stick. He started using a walking stick at 82 years old and would walk this block of Cabernet to stay fit. Nina makes this wine with a focus on youth. It is medium-bodied, luscious and fresh. Oh! Nina earned the title of Cape Wine Master in 2014.

Taylor (The Illest) – Nodus En La Parra Bobal.

Bobal is native to Valencia and even though it is the 2nd most widely planted red grape in Spain we rarely see it. But it is delicious! Full of violet, spice and red berry fruit. Full bodied on the palate with a faint smoky finish. Pairs terrifically with casseroles, rice dishes, tomato and cured ham.

John (Beer Buyer) – Le P’Tit Paysan by Ian Brand

Ian Brand is a rising-star. His approach to winemaking and sourcing grapes is thoughtful and precise. His wines showcase value and Old-World character. Ian spends a lot of time sniffing out diamond-in-the-rough vineyards and undervalued terroir and makes excellent wines from the fruit found therein. Always reflecting power of place and conscious of varietal character.

Debb (Wine Lover) – Trebbiano

Another organic choice, as this is the trend with so many winemakers these days. In fact, Nina’s husband (Daniel’s pick) farms their land organically as well. Trebbiano thrives in Romagna and this one is shining bright! The family treats the land well and is passionate about how they make wine. They are always experimenting with the goal of making the best wine they can and have adopted techniques from Georgian winemakers.

This wine is floral and generous with bright but well-integrated acidity. Sadly, many wines boasting the Trebbiano grape are thin, insipid and unremarkable. But when you find a good one, and I did, they are delicious!
